Fall Class Schedule: Aug 2014 to Jan 2015

You'll learn all the basics: how to knit, purl, put stitches on your needle (cast on), finish up (cast off), change yarn in the middle of your project, weave in your ends, and how to read a ball band as well as a basic pattern. You should be able to make a scarf in this class (get ready to spend a few hours of down time working on your knitting in front of the TV). Class consists of 2 sessions over 2 weeks. Crochet is fast, easy and becoming very popular. You'll learn all the basics: how to make a chain, the foundation stitches, how to crochet in the round, increase and decrease, and how to read a basic pattern. Want to learn something but can't make it to one of our regular workshops? No problem! You can work on any project you like in our Open Project Class. The next step after making scarves is making hats! Hats are fast, easy, and very, very satisfying! With a choice of three great basic styles, we'll teach you how to knit in the round, how to knit on double pointed needles (the ones that look like little chopsticks), how to decrease stitches and how to read a pattern. Choose to make a mitten or fingerless mitts in this workshop. Take you skills to the next level by learning how to make cables! We'll teach you how to use a cable hook, read a cable chart, how to make twisted and traveling cables, and even a bobble. You'll learn a fast and easy way to work with colour. Learn mosaic/slip stitch in the round, use 2 colours simultaneously, and carry yarns without tugging or cutting. Whether you're just up for something different or you would like to learn to make socks for the first time, this class is a great place to begin. Here you will learn how to use double pointed needles, how to make short-row toes and heels, a mitred alternative to the heel-flap of the traditional cuff-down sock, and how to bind off with elasticity. $49.97 (+ tax). Materials not included, but we sell everything you need and you receive 10% off all materials during your class.

Find out why so many people have fallen in love with entrelac - a colourwork pattern of interlocking blocks knit on the bias. You'll learn the basic techniques, how to work entrelac in the round, and how for use it's natural properties to form a hat crown. This trouble-shooting class is a great way to build your knitterly confidence. Here you will not only learn to identify several of the common errors that stop knitters in their tracks, but also how to repair them without shedding any tears or having to rip your work back to the beginning. Come prepared with bloopers of your own, or make some gaff samples here. No matter what, you are guaranteed to learn from your mistakes. $49.97 (+ tax).

Finishing can make or break a beautiful hand-knit, so let us show you how to do it properly. You will learn a variety of techniques, including mattress stitch seaming, sewing a sleeve into place, three-needle bind offs, grafting (kitchener stitch), picking up stitches for button bands and necklines, as well as the mysterious proportions that take the guesswork out of many of these procedures. We encourage students to bring items to finish (optional). $49.97 (+ tax).
