Upcoming Classes Spring 2014


Our Spring-Summer Knitting & crochet class list is live, here's a peek at spring! General Classes focus on skills, Project Workshops integrate skills into a knitting project.

beginner knitting
Skill Level Absolute Beginner, Instructor Liane Schwarz
2 session class:
Tues. Feb 18 + 25, 6pm to 8pm CLASS FULL
Mon. Mar 24 + 31, 6-8pm
Tues. May 6 + 13 , 6-8pm
Mon. Jun 16 + 22, 6-8pm

You'll learn all the basics: how to knit, purl, put stitches on your needle (cast on), finish up (cast off), change yarn in the middle of your project, weave in your ends, and how to read a ball band as well as a basic pattern. You should be able to make a scarf in this class (get ready to spend a few hours of down time working on your knitting in front of the TV). Class consists of 2 sessions over 2 weeks. Materials are not included, but we sell everything you need and you receive 10% off all materials during your class. $39.97 + tax.





beginner crochet
Skill Level: absolute beginner, Instructor Liane Schwarz
2 session class:
Mon. Mar 10 + 17, 6-8pm
Tues. May 20 + 27, 6-8pm
Tues. Jun 24 + Jul 8, 6-8pm

Crochet is fast, easy and becoming very popular. You'll learn all the basics: how to make a chain, the foundation stitches, how to crochet in the round, increase and decrease, and how to read a basic pattern. You will graduate with a granny square or flower under your belt. $39.97 (+ tax and materials)






NEW fixing mistakes + trouble-shooting
Skill Level: 1, Instructor Liane Schwarz
2 session class:
Tues. Apr 1 + 8, 6-8pm

This trouble-shooting class is a great way to build your knitterly confidence. Here you will not only learn to identify several of the common errors that stop knitters in their tracks, but also how to repair them without shedding any tears or having to rip your work back to the beginning. Come prepared with bloopers of your own, or make some gaff samples here. No matter what, you are guaranteed to learn from your mistakes. $49.97 (+ tax)






NEW finishing skills
Skill Level: 1, Instructor Liane Schwarz
2 session class:
Mon. Apr 28 + May 5, 6-8pm

Finishing can make or break a beautiful hand-knit, so let us show you how to do it properly. You will learn a variety of techniques, including mattress stitch seaming, sewing a sleeve into place, three-needle bind offs, grafting (kitchener stitch), picking up stitches for button bands and necklines, as well as the mysterious proportions that take the guesswork out of many of these procedures. We encourage students to bring items to finish (optional). $49.97 (+ tax)

Want to learn something but can't make it to one of our regular workshops? No problem! You can work on any project you like in our Open Project Class. You can also use the time to get help with something you are already working on or if you need some support with finishing – it's up to you! 2 session class: $49.97 + tax, 1 session class: $25.97 + tax. Materials not included, but we sell everything you need and you receive 10% off all materials during your class.






NEW learn to love intarsia (mittens)

2 session class: Tues. Feb. 4 + 11, 6pm to 8pm

Perfect for Valentine's Day, these mittens import a classic image with contemporary flair, while teaching you how to work in the round, shape a mitten and work simple intarsia. What more could you want? $49.97 (+ tax and materials).

This beautiful slouchy tam has just the right blend of classic and modern, skill and fun. Here you will learn how to work in the round, with double pointed needles, how to follow a more complex cable pattern, how to work both standard and twist cables, and how to increase and decrease a hat without sacrificing the cabled surface. $49.97 + tax and materials.

2 session class: Tues Mar 4 + 11, 6-8pm
For those of you who think colour-work knitting just isn't any fun, stop right here! This lovely textured cowl will show you how easy it can be to work in colour--no stranding or puckering, just a clever manipulation of yarns to produce a fair isle-like pattern that will keep everyone guessing. $49.97 (+ tax and materials)






entrelac cowl
Skill Level 2/3, Instructor Liane Schwarz
2 session class: Tues. Mar 18 + 25, 6-8pm

This fun and colourful neck cuff will teach you how to knit entrelac (interlocking squares) in the round. This project is great for those who want to try this technique for the first time, and ideal for those who already have some experience with entrelac worked back and forth. This great 'tween-weather hat will not only help you understand basic lace-knitting techniques--yarn overs, slanted decreases, a double sided pattern, but also provide you with a very cool alternative to the traditional knitted hat, since the natural waves of the lace pattern come together to form a beautiful star-shaped crown. $49.97 (+ tax and materials).






NEW spring + summer cardie

3 session class: Tues. Apr 15, 22 + 29, 6-8pm

This go-to cardigan is a great way to launch into spring/summer knitting. In addition to following a basic pattern you will also learn how to make simple set-in sleeves, how to pick up stitches, and how to knit a ribbed border. $74.97 (+ tax and materials)






socks (toe-up)
Skill Level: 2, Instructor Liane Schwarz
2 session class: Mon May 12 + 26, 6-8pm

Whether you're just up for something different or you would like to learn to make socks for the first time, this class is a great place to begin. Here you will learn how to use double pointed needles, how to make short-row toes and heels, a mitred alternative to the heel-flap of the traditional cuff-down sock, and how to bind off with elasticity. $49.97 (+ tax & materials)






beginner cardie (top-down, no-sew)
Skill Level 1 to 2, Instructor Liane Schwarz
3 sessions: Tues. June 3, 10 + 17, 6-8pm

All of the fun, none of the tears! With this basic top-down knit you will learn how to shape a raglan yoke, how to make sleeves, how to work a neckband and a buttonhole, all without the tedium of sewing. Who could ask for anything more? $74.97 (+ tax)
