streeknit kits

street knit kits, originally uploaded by knitomatic.

Free kits are now available for anyone who wants to contribute to project Streetknit. There's enough Yarn in each kit to make a scarf but you can also make a hat or mitten. You can knit them fast by holding 2 or 3 strands together. Check out the Streetknit website for free patterns or the Knit-O-Matic Free Pattern Archive.

"Every year people in Toronto freeze to death because they have nowhere to come in from the cold. We can't knit shelter, but we can do the next best thing. We're asking you to put your needles together and spend some time this summer knitting some warmth into a sweater, a hat, mittens, socks, or a scarf to keep someone warm this winter. All items will be donated to homeless outreach programs this fall."
